Specialist Projects

Richard and the team at Prestige memorials absolutely thrive on a challenge. They also like to help out with any good cause projects. Below are examples of just a couple of recent cases that have challenged us all, but in the end have been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to be a part of.  Prestige Memorials would encourage all groups undertaking works of this nature to get in contact to see how we can work together and complete was sometimes feels like the impossible.

Newport’s Rocky

Here at Prestige Memorials we love a challenge and we love to create magic with memorials. When we were approached by Luke Pearce of the Newport’s Rocky Charity to help with a base for the pending statue of the great Heavyweight Champion David ‘Bomber’ Pearce there was only one answer – Of Course we will. What followed then was a feast of a task working with the sculpture to ensure it was fitting and could all be secured, the charity to make sure it was right to honour the great man, as well as fitting with planning with NCC and finally the logistics of how we get such a thing in place. Credit to Kyles Lifting for that one.

The statue landed with us and allowed us to get some final bits together before deadline day. Thankfully the statue and the base work perfectly and will be standing strong in Newport for evermore.

Then came the last-minute request: What about a plaque and where could we fix it. Well the plaque as no problem, bread and butter for us, the 24 hrs were a push but we did it, all finished a gorgeous hard wood frame, supplied by one of our suppliers. Perfect.

How do we take this digital though? With the introduction of QR Codes of course. These can be seen on the plaques now and allow the user to be linked straight through to the funding pages and the Wikipedia pages from any smart phone or tablet.

To summarise this project was an honour and excellent to be a small part of. Please read more about it by googling NEWPORTS ROCKY.

War Memorial

If ever there was a specialist project , then this was going to be it.

A War memorial to honour the lives of those that had given their lives in the ultimate sacrifice for others. A dream concept that was talked about over a cuppa of tea with the vicar at the time. Could it be done in the space we had been given by a great PCC to work with.

After a 12 month of planning, meetings, CAD drawings to name just a part of this process, we had the go-ahead to start the build. During the build time we had to construct the foundations, ensuring that they were in keeping with the remembrance service. Had to ensure that all were able to visit and pay their respects, but to ensure that it was safe and not open to less desirable attention.

Finally the memorial is made and the inscription decided upon. There isn’t a engraving cabinet in Wales that it would fit, so we had to carve the lettering by hand and ensure that again it could be seen from all sides.

In little over 18 months from that great cup of tea which had the memorial on the lorry – (Another nod to Kyles lifting for that one) and the memorial was dropped at the gate. (We couldn’t risk the beautiful trees after all) Luckily we are well equipped with lifting equipment and although a mere 8 feet at a time we finally had the memorial base in, quickly followed by the beautiful carved cross that we see there today.

The memorial will hopefully be sat at that site forever. The lettering has been deep cut by hand and there is space to hopefully name some of the lost souls from the great wars, but for now we are again thankful to of been involved in such a memorial.
